The band was formed in May '2000 by Demiurg's initiative. S.R. (bass) and Ol'gerd
(vocal) joined him promptly. In Sptember '2000 drummer Iscander and guitarist Naviy
were included in. With that staff group leaded by Demiurg begins its travel back 
the time, gaining its musical shape and contents in legacies of paganism, returning 
medieval legends from oblivion. 

	As a result, group created «Долина Вечных Снегов», «Скорбь Лесов», «Вервольф», «Погань»,
«Царство Безмолвного Страха». With that material and covers of BURZUM and DARKTHRONE 
СУМРАК gets expirience of concert performance. In spring of 2001 Ol'gerd leaves band 
due to personal reasons. S.R. becomes a vocalist. In summer band makes some records 
of their material. Ol'gerd rejoins the band. On the 23rd of June '2001 СУМРАК takes 
part in region's festival «Живой звук» where takes an award. 

	At 3rd of November '2001 СУМРАК makes one more concert and concentrates on recording 
debut demo «Скорбь Лесов». Five previously mentioned tracks were included, and keyboard 
intro and acoustic outro were added. The work was done at 24th of March '2002. The 
material is atmospheric and majestic pagan black metal. Next five months showed internal
antagonisms inside the group about further development. Interior conflicts defined two
ways of movement: incarnation of pagan thought the prism of slavonic spirituality 
(Demiurg); or initiation through the mystery of abyss (S.R., Iscander). Ol'gerd leaves
the band due to lack of motivation to creativity. Naviy couldn't progress with the 
band, so he left too. Work on the new material defined the path — SUMRAK Stepped into
the Darkness. 

	In the end of 2003 group decided to re-record old material, but the foundation of new 
demo were in new tracks anyway. They were «Избранный», «Ветер», «Очищение» %#151; harsh
and technic black metal. Cover version of DARKTHRONE's «Natassia In Eternal Sleep» were
included too. New creation were entitled «Литании Ненависти» and was finished at January
of 2004. During recording Iscander had to leave group due to personal problems. СУМРАК
continued working as a duet (Demiurg and S.R.). To materialize its image at Shadows of
Death II festival, СУМРАК (Sumak). filled the staff with guitarist Scull and drummer 
Ferki (from techno-death band SPIRAL). 

	Soon Ferki left СУМРАК (Sumak). During spring and summer of 2004 band shown no sign of 
activity. At autumn group continued moving. Kannib became drummer, Scull returned as a 
guitarist. During 2005 and 2006 СУМРАК (Sumak). gives concerts in Veliky Novgorod and 
beyond its borders, in Pskov and Velikije Luki. Then again ahows no signs of its existance.
Due to musical antagonisms Kannib leaves the band in autumn of 2006. Iscander returns 
to band. So begins the work on new material, working name is «Одержимость» («Possession»). 

	In summer 2007 vocalist/guitarist S.R. left band due to personal reasons. Searching for 
replace succeeded soon. New СУМРАК's frontman is Impious (NOROMI LUCALEN) — guitar/vocal.
Several months later S.R. returns back bringing some new stuff. 

	In spring of the year 2008 Skull and Iscander embarked on the path of filth and were 
exiled from the legions of Sumrak for all eternity. For several months this beast had 
to sleep in the abyss of melting time and darkness. In the end of November of the same
year Kannib (Drums) returns back together with a new member Lucius (Bass). In a fortnight
Sumrak goes to St. Petersburg taking part in the fest Black Legion and performing under
a glimpsing eye of the full moon at 4 a.m. After this great gig the band members take 
one more break for several months. 

	By spring of 2009 Demiurg erects a rehearsal base of his own called «Burial mound» and 
everything is set up for the powerful continuation but Kannib leaves us because of some 
personal circumstances. So in the late spring of 2009 Hellcommander (Drums) joins the 
band refreshing its blood while other musicians get their hellish black metal weapons 
renewed and start rehearsals. On the 15 th of august Sumrak plays at Folhovskiy Front 
open air in Velikiy Novgorod together with Severnye Vrata (Northen gates) Nevid’ and 
Aria. After the novgorod gig Sumrak leaves for Moscow to support musically and spiritually
a new coming album of Stigmatic Chorus. Now preparations for recording of a new album are
being made.
